Reflection
The Copyright Presentation was completed to identify legal and ethical uses of digital information and technologies. The presentation was complete individually.
Standard 4.2, Safe, Healthy, Legal and Ethical Use establishes expectations for modeling and facilitating the safe, healthy, legal, and ethical uses of digital information and technologies. The artifact demonstrates my ability to model and facilitate the safe, healthy, legal, and ethical uses of digital information and technologies. The presentation defines copyright and fair uses. Scenarios are provided for each example of copyright laws such as media (audio and video), print, and web information. This clearly models the appropriate use of digital information and technologies. The copyright presentation models and facilitates the safe, healthy, legal, and ethical uses of electronic copies attained from sites like teacherspayteachers.com and education.com.
Completing the copyright presentation made me aware of the legality of using printed and electronic copies. As teachers now use more and more technology for teaching resources, it is important to review this copyright presentation with them each year. One thing I would do differently is add more scenarios of downloading and sharing electronic copies.
This artifact impacts faculty development by increasing their knowledge about copyright laws. The impact can be assessed by the way the faculty follow the laws for copyrighting and fair use. This copyright presentation can be share with the faculty at the opening meeting for the upcoming school year and review from time to time. A questionnaire about copyright laws can also be completed to assess the impact of the copyright presentation. Teachers can also role play the scenarios to demonstrate understanding of the copyright laws.
