Candidates utilize digital communication and collaboration tools to communicate locally and globally with students, parents, peers, and the larger community.
Reflection
Class blogs were completed to communicate and collaborate with my peers about Web 2.0 tools, learning measurement systems, and other digital tools. Social networks such as Twitter, Feedly, and Pinterest were used to communicate and collaborate emerging technologies for 21st century learning.
Standard 3.7, Communication and Collaboration establishes expectations for utilizing digital communication and collaboration tools to communicate locally and globally with students, parents, peers, and the larger community. This artifact demonstrates my ability to utilize digital communication and collaboration tools to communicate locally and globally with my peers and the larger community. Twitter and Weebly were the digital tools used mostly to communicate and collaborate with my peers. Blogging with my peers help me to understand how important and rewarding communication can be intellectually for professional growth. After communicating and collaborating with my peers through the use of digital communication and collaboration tools, I started using digital tools to communicate with my students and parents. My students and parents are able to communicate with me through several different digital tools. We now use Class Dijo, Remind, and Google Classroom to communicate locally with our parents. My parents seem to love have this tool for communicating freely with me.
Completing this artifact enlightening the importance of communication and collaboration within the school for all stakeholders (teachers, parents, students, and administrators). One thing I would do differently is use digital tools to communicate on more of a global scale. I would like to teach my kindergarten students how to blog.
The artifact can impact school improvement and student learning by increasing parental involvement and awareness of school activities and student learning. The impact can be assessed by the increase in parental involvement in school functions by the use of surveys and needs assessments. Student learning can grow when the line of communication exists between parents and teachers. This can be assessed by how well students perform on formative and summative assessments in the classroom and on district and state assessments.
