1.2 Strategic Planning
Candidates facilitate the design, development, communication, and evaluation, of technology-infused strategic plans.

The Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats (SWOT) Analysis was completed to determine the current reality of technology integration in our school. In completing the SWOT Analysis, we used the rubric from ISTE’s Eight Essential Conditions (ISTE, 2016) to examine the strengths and weaknesses of our school. The SWOT Analysis is a reflective and systematic analysis of technological needs involving data collection for providing recommendations and planning for improvement (Creighton, 2003, p.39). I used the data collected from surveys and needs assessments when gathering information for the SWOT.
Standard 1.2, Strategic Planning establishes the expectations for facilitate the design, development, communication, and evaluation, of technology-infused strategic plans. This artifact demonstrates my ability to assess the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats related to instructional technology in order to develop and implement a strategic plan. ISTE Essential Conditions (ISTE, 2016) outline clear guidelines for technology integration. In order for a technology plan to be effective, all stakeholders need to have some involvement in designing and developing the plan. Our school did not have a technology plan and were not familiar with ITSE’s Eight Essential Conditions (ISTE, 2016). The SWOT Analysis will be used to develop a technology plan for implementation of technology standards. Professional learning is needed to implement the plan. The results of the SWOT Analysis are being used to make improvements in the weak areas identified by the ISTE Essential Conditions. A technology teams is being established to develop and communicate a technology plan to all stakeholders. The technology team will use the Essential Conditions Rubric and data collection to evaluate the effectiveness of the plan after the implementation is completed.
Completing this SWOT Analysis was a meaningful learning experience. Using the SWOT matrix (Creighton, 2003, p. 32), I learned how to analyze the technology needs for my school. This experience helped identify the many weaknesses of our technology integration at our school. One thing I would do differently is involve more stakeholders at the district level to revise the current technology plan for Coffee County Schools.
The artifact impacts our school improvement and student learning by identifying weaknesses in our technology plan and the implementation of technology standards. The artifact provides suggestions for improving the integration of technology. The artifact’s impact can be assessed by the implementation of technology standards and by the level of student engaged learning and achievement.
