1.3 Policies, Procedures, Programs & Funding – Candidates research, recommend, and implement policies, procedures, programs, and funding strategies to support implementation of the shared vision.
Reflection
Evaluating an Emerging Technology presentation was completed to demonstrate my ability to research and recommend a program for integrating a second language. Duolingo is the emerging technology I researched and recommended. Duolingo is a web-based software program designed to teach students another language using game-based activities to promote learning and student engagement. Technology is constantly changing and evolving, research is needed to keep up with new technology innovations. Coffee County decided to implement another costly software (Rosetta Stone) for teaching elementary students Spanish.
Standard 1.3 establishes the expectations for researching, recommending, and implementing policies, procedures, programs, and funding strategies to support implementation of the shared vision. The artifacts demonstrate my ability to research emerging technology and recommend it to stakeholders at broad office for Coffee County Schools. Duolingo received praise as a highly effective way to learn a foreign language. It was mentioned to be among the top ten emerging technologies for higher education. Previous research on the program provided more information and support for using this technology as a learning tool. The effectiveness to enhance learning, increase student engagement through gamification, and the free cost lead to my recommendation to our school district. The implementation of the suggested free web-based program (Duolingo) for teaching Spanish as a second language was not completed.
Completing this artifact allowed me to gain knowledge and skills needed to complete research on emerging technology. I was able to share my presentation with the assistant superintendent of standards, instruction, and assessment. One thing I would do differently is recommend the program to more stakeholders to improve to chance for implementation.
The artifact impacts student learning by increasing student engage and knowledge of another language. The impact could be assessed by the level of student engages and the student’s ability to use another language to communicate orally and written.
