4.1 Digital Equity
Candidates model and promote strategies for achieving equitable access to digital tools and resources and technology-related best practices for all students and teachers.
Reflection
The Equitable Access Blog Entry was completed to demonstrate understanding of digital equity and list resources for helping students and teachers have technology-related best practices.
Standard 4.1, Digital Equity establishes expectations for modeling and promoting strategies for achieving equitable access to digital tools, resources, and technology-related best practices for all students and teachers. The artifact demonstrates my ability to model and promote strategies for achieving equitable access through the use of podcast and video casting. ISTE establishes the criteria for meeting the Equitable Access standards. In order to meet the national educational technology standards, access to current technologies, software, and telecommunications network is provided for P-18 students, teachers, faculty, and support personnel in each classroom and both inside and outside the school and during and beyond the school day (ISTE, 2016). Providing access beyond the school day is essential for meeting this standard. The artifact mentions several digital tools for helping students outside the school, but does not state any ways to help students have access to the Internet beyond the school walls. Podbean and Jing are digital tools used to support students with diverse learning needs by providing a way to make content accessible to student for whom it might not otherwise be a possibility. Establishing a blended learning environment for students is a technology-related best practice; students with Internet access are able to retrieve information online at home and school. Teachers can use these digital tools as learning tools for remediation or acceleration of content for diverse learners.
Completing the blog help me understand Equitable Access and identifying digital tools for technology-related best practices. One thing I would do differently is define equitable access better and identify ways to help our school meet this standard.
This artifact impacts student learning by increasing accessibility for all students. The impact can be assessed by the increase of students have accessibility to digital tools inside and outside the school.
