3.1 Classroom Management and Collaborative Learning
Candidates model and facilitate effective classroom management and collaborative strategies to maximize teacher and student use of digital tools and resources.
Reflection
The Internet Lesson Plan was completed to develop to enhance student learning experience through the use of technology. The lesson plan included content and technology standards for a kindergarten class. The students learned to use Google Doc to write and publish (share) their writing. I established expectations for the use of the digital tools and appropriate behavior in the computer lab.
Standard 3.1 Classroom Management and Collaborative Learning establishes the expectations for modeling and facilitating effective classroom management and collaborative learning strategies. The artifact demonstrates my ability to model and facilitate effective classroom management strategies by establishing guidelines for using digital tools in the computer lab to complete Internet lesson. Expectations for how to use the computer and what computer programs were acceptable were established in the classroom prior to the lesson. The artifact demonstrates my ability to model and facilitate effective collaborative learning strategies. The students learned to collaborate with each other through the use of digital tools by sharing their work via email. The students were able to collaborate with the teacher as well using Google Drive to share their work. Mini-lessons were used to model appropriate way to access Google Doc and share with only students and teachers in the class.
Completing this lesson with such early-aged students has taught me to establish clear expectations at the start and the students will meet those expectations. It was an exciting and meaningful experience for me and my students. This lesson provided my students with authentic technology-enhanced learning and collaborative learning skills that will be with them for many years. One thing I would do differently is check the effectiveness of all the desired software programs and clarify specific trouble-shooting strategies for software problems.
This artifact impacts students learning by increasing their knowledge and providing a learning environment that is enriched with technology. It can be assessed by the students’ ability to collaborate and work well with others to increase in student achievement.
