2.1 Content Standards and Student Technology Standards
Candidates model and facilitate the design and implementation of technology-enhanced learning experiences aligned with student content standards and student technology standards.
Reflection
The Internet Lesson Plan was developed to enhance students learning experience through the use of technology. The lesson plan included content and technology standards for a kindergarten class. The students learned to use Google Doc to write and publish (share) their writing. I designed and implemented the lesson aligned to the state’s writing standards for kindergarten students and the NET-S, national technology standards for students.
Standard 2.1, Content Standards and Student Technology Standards establishes clear expectations for modeling and facilitating the design and implementation of a technology-enhanced learning experience. This artifact demonstrates my ability to align a technology lesson with student content standards and student technology standards and model and facilitate the design and implementation of the technology-enhanced lesson. The Internet Lesson Plan was designed to teach kindergarten students how to use technology to write sentences and share the writing. The implementation of the lesson went well. My students were excited about using the computers to type and share with me and each other. I was a little reluctant to teach a technology lesson to kindergarten students, but after the first day in the computer lab, my attitude completely changed. I was able to model effective strategies for using the projector to demonstrate how to locate Google Docs. I wanted to provide the students with practicing opportunities to familiarize themselves with the program. Each day I would teach them something new. After the students completed writing the sentences on paper, they logged on and type their sentences in Google Docs and share it with me. I then compiled their writings to create a presentation to share with the school. My students enjoyed using the digital tools. They were excited to go to the computer lab to use Google Docs.
Completing this lesson with such early-aged students has taught me to never set my expectations of others low. It was an exciting and meaningful experience for me and my students. This lesson provided my students with authentic technology-enhanced learning that will be with them for many years and help build prior knowledge. One thing I would do differently is check the effectiveness of all the desired software programs and clarify specific trouble-shooting strategies for software problems.
This artifact impacts students learning by increasing their knowledge and providing a learning environment that is enriched with technology. It can be assessed by the students’ ability to adjust to online testing in the future and the increase in student achievement.
