1.1Shared Vision
Candidates facilitate the development and implementation of a shared vision for the use of technology in teaching, learning, and leadership.
Reflection
The Shared Vision Paper was completed to develop a new technology vision for our school. ISTE’s Eight Essential Conditions (ISTE, 2016) was used to guide the development of the Shared Vision. A shared vision serves as the driving force behind a technology implementation plan — but it’s not formulated and disseminated from the top down. Rather, a shared vision arises from the collaborative voices, goals and values of the educators, support staff, students, parents and community members within the system (ISTE, 2016). The Shared Vision Paper is a strategic plan outlining our school’s purpose and future goals for implementing technology. I used a surveys, observations, and current mission and vision statements to develop the vision.
Standard 1.1, Shared Vision establishes the expectations for development, and implementation of new technology-based vision. This artifact demonstrates my ability to facilitate the development of a shared vision. The artifact contains survey/interview questions used to guide the development of the vision paper. It outlines a clear vision statement and a rationale for the vision; diversity considerations, stakeholders’ roles, and goals. The steps considered for developing a shared vision is communicating with all stakeholders to determine our future goals and establish a vision statement. Next, I evaluated our current vision statement. The School Improvement Plan and Technology Plan Analysis was helpful in determining how technology is being addressed in our school. The goals outlined in the Shared Vision Paper demonstrates my ability to facilitate the implementation of vision for our school. Some adjustments in the curriculum has to made for acquaint compliance of the technology standards at the state and national level. Teachers will need to receive professional development for unpacking the technology standards. Training will need to be available for parents to ensure the vision is successful. Our school Leadership Team will be involved in making changes to the School Improvement Plan to reflect the Shared Vision.
Completing this Shared Vision paper was a meaningful learning experience. From this experience, I learned how to develop a strategic technology plan. It allowed me to walk a mile in my administrator’s shoes. I was able to evaluate current plans and determine the lack of technology standards being meet in our school. One thing I would do differently is involve more stakeholders at the district level to establish at Shared Vision for Coffee County Schools and not just for Westside Elementary School. I would also address more diversity considerations.
The artifact impacts our school improvement by increasing technology use in our school and helping us address more technology standards. The impact of the Shared Vision can be assessed by observation of teachers using technology to increase student learning and by the increase in student achievement on state and district assessments.
