2.8 Data Analysis
Candidates model and facilitate the effective use of digital tools and resources to systematically collect and analyze student achievement data, interpret results, communicate findings, and implement appropriate interventions to improve instructional practice and maximize student learning.
Reflection
The Data Overview was completed to collect data and communicate the academic findings for the state assessment. Data Overviews can provide useful information about how students are doing as a whole. The Data Overview also will provide an opportunity to me to share evidence of what I already know about student performance within the focus area.
Standard 2.7, establishes expectations for modeling and facilitating the use of digital tools and resources to collect, analyze, and interpret student achievement data, communicating the findings, and implementing appropriate intervention to improve instructional practice and maximize student learning. This artifact demonstrates my ability to model and facilitate the use of digital tools (Excel) and resources (GMAS – Georgia Milestone Assessment System) to collect, analyze, and interpret student achievement data. This artifact also demonstrates my ability model and facilitate the use of digital tools and resources (PowerPoint, Screencasting, and Video Editing) to communicate the findings. This artifact allows me the opportunity to demonstrate my ability to model and facilitate the use of digital tools and resources to implement appropriate interventions to improve instructional practice and maximize student learning after establishing a data team and segregating the data to identify the student learning problem. The Data Overview outlines percentage of students meeting and exceeding the learning standards by ethnicity, gender, and grade level. The Data Overview can be used to guide the discussion for change to ensure the best research-based instructional strategies are being used.
Completing the Data Overview was an unforgettable learning experience. I stressed about not having enough data or the right data. I also stressed about how I was going to collect the data in the middle of summer break. One thing I would do differently is write out a scrip understand in just narrating without one so that I would not have any hesitation in my presentation.
This artifact impacts student learning and school improvement by identifying the strengths and weaknesses in student achievement and setting learning goals for the school. The impact can be assessed by learning goals being met and increase in student achievement on district and state assessment.
