3.4 Adaptive and Assistive Technology
Candidates facilitate the use of adaptive and assistive technologies to support individual student learning needs.
Reflection
The Assistive Technology Implementation Plan was completed to design a plan for helping met the learning needs of an individual student. The plan was completed by a team of teachers and resource personnel.
Standard 3.4, Adaptive and Assistive Technology establishes expectations for facilitating the use of adaptive and assistive technologies to support individual student learning needs. The artifact demonstrates my ability to facilitate the use of adaptive and assistive technologies to support the learning needs of the student. The Assistive Technology Implementation Plan outlined how the student learning needs were being met and which technologies were most effective for supporting his learning needs. Some of the assistive technologies used with the student were slates, magnifiers, and enlarged printed materials. The assistive technologies provided aids to assist the student with his visual impairment; ensuring that he was academically successful.
Completing the Assistive Technology Implementation Plan was very rewarding for me. I had the opportunity to work with an exceptional student that was eager to learn with his peers. The student was well received by the other students in my general education class. One thing I would do differently is be more involved in the IEP process of the student.
The artifact impacts student learning by allowing all students to learn and by creating a positive learning environment for diverse learners. The impact can be assessed by the student’s learning achievements both physical and mental.
